What is balayage?
Balayage comes from the French word for "to sweep". Instead of foils placed in neat rows, lightener is painted freehand where the light would naturally catch your hair. The result is softer and more natural than traditional highlights.
Is balayage right for me?
Balayage suits you if you want a natural, lived-in look and don't want to be in the salon every month. It works on brunettes wanting a caramel or honey lift, blondes wanting more dimension, and anyone starting to blend grey.
If you want brighter, more even blonde from root to tip, highlights may suit you better. Not sure? Send Bev a photo of your hair and one of the look you like on WhatsApp.
Aftercare
Use a sulphate-free shampoo, a purple shampoo once a week if your balayage is blonde, and heat protection when you style. A toner every 6 to 8 weeks keeps the colour fresh between full appointments.
What happens in your appointment
- Consultation with your photos and hair history.
- Lightener hand-painted onto chosen sections.
- Toner for the exact shade: golden, beige, ash or caramel.
- Treatment, then a blow wave.

Questions about balayage
How long does balayage last?
Usually 3 to 4 months before it needs redoing. A toner in between keeps it bright.
Can I have balayage on dark hair?
Yes. Dark hair is usually lifted to a warm caramel or honey tone, which keeps the hair in good condition.
How long is the appointment?
Allow about 3 hours. Long or thick hair can take longer.
Where are you?
2 Phoenix Street, Kensington, about five minutes from Bedford Centre.
